How can I upload my questionnaire file (Word or Excel) to the inca platform?

Once you've signed up and logged in to your account, you will be directed to the PROJECT DIRECTORY page. To create a new study, just click the +New Project button. Users can either build a study from scratch or upload from an existing questionnaire files (Word or Excel).



To program individual question, click Build. To upload a question file, click Import.



Import
The Survey Upload feature enables users to upload existing questionnaire files (Word or Excel) to automatically generate a survey project. This significantly reduces the need for manual setup in the builder, helping users move faster from questionnaire programming to execution.

This feature is designed to streamline workflows for users who already have surveys prepared offline, while still allowing flexibility to review, refine, and enhance the uploaded survey within the platform.

In the Import Page, follow these steps to upload the questionnaire:

1. Add the Project Name. The project name is used for the project card and Builder Overview page

2. Upload the file by drag-and-up or click to browse the file. Currently, the supported formats are: .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm
 - Note: For Excel files, only one sheet can be selected



3. Click Import Questionnaire




“Make Conversational” Toggle (this is optional)
- When enabled, AI rewrites survey questions into more natural, conversational language while preserves the original meaning and intent

4. Upon submission, a popup is displayed informing the user that the import will take a few minutes minutes to process and users can go back to the Project Directory. 




5. While processing:
  1. A new Project Card is created in the Project Directory
  2. The card displays a “Processing” status indicator
  3. The card is not clickable during this state

6. Once processing is complete, users will receive an email that the project is ready for review.
  1. The “Processing” indicator is replaced with the standard “Draft” status
  2. The Project Card becomes clickable. Simply click Edit to edit and review the imported questionnaire


7. User will be taken to the Overview page. Click Question Builder to review the individual questions that were uploaded.


Scope and Limitations:

Supported Language: English only

Supported Format: Word/ Excel (single sheet)

Supported Question Types:

  • Choice (including single choice and multiple choice)

  • Scale

  • Rank Order

  • Grid (displayed as a Carousel)

  • Open-Ended

  • Numeric

  • Message with text only (displayed as a multimedia question with text only)

Supported Fields:

  • Question Number (use the question order if it’s not specified in the questionnaire)

  • Question Label (AI-generated from the question wording if not explicitly provided in the questionnaire)

  • Question Text

  • Option Label and Text 

  • Card Label and Text 

Supported Option Settings:

  • Not applicable option

  • Other, specify option

  • # of selections allowed

  • Randomization of options


Not-yet Supported Question Types/Features

The following question types/features are not uploaded automatically, and need to be added manually:

  • Termination logic

  • Quota requirements

  • Question logic

  • Option logic

  • Option piping

  • Answer referencing

  • Virtual questions

  • Grouped / looped questions

  • AI Probing

  • Quality control settings

  • Non-text stimulus materials (e.g. images, videos)

  • Multilingual question and option wording
