How to set up a Scale Question?

How to set up a Scale Question?

Main use:

Similar to a choice question, but by default, the scale option is shown only in a horizontal manner. They are usually used to gauge agreement, importance, preference or likelihood.

Using a Scale Question vs a Choice Question

- By default, the options in a Scale question are already set up/aligned in a horizontal manner for participants to easily choose the answer using a full scale.

Standard Choice Question (Scale Type of Question)

- In the standard choice question, making a scale type of question is not aligned by default (but can be modified using the EDIT DESIGN)

How to set up the platform:

1. In the Questionnaire Builder page, add a new question OR insert a new question by hovering over an existing question and clicking the green (+) button (either above or below the existing question)

2. Select Scale from the popup menu that appears.

3. Write your question number or label in the upper box and write your question in the Question Text Box.

4. Add the participants' choices using the Response Options Box

Response Option Box (Content):

- If adding options by typing choices one by one in the Option Content field, click Add Option

- If adding options using copy-paste from a listor drag-and-drop list/image, click Batch Add

- You can also add options using the pre-determined list in the Library > Add from Library

You can also save the options you created using
Library > Save Options to Library (and it will be added to the Add From Library drop-down list)

- To add a mutually exclusive option, you can click (+) Not Applicable and edit the wording for Not Applicable (for example: None of the above)

- To add Other responses click (+) Other, Specify and participants can type in and specify their answer (not in the listed option)

- When adding Options (whether individually, batch add or from Library), the Value or option codes as well as the Label (what appears in result visualization or dashboard) will also be automatically updated, but can also be modified by users.

Settings:

A. Piped Options
- If adding options from an existing question, toggle on Use piped options

B. Randomize Options
- If you want to randomize a response to shuffle the choices (and to avoid response bias), toggle on Randomize options. This will display the options in a random order instead of the order you added them in.

C. Option Format
The users can specify the option formats and choose from 'Text only', 'Image only' or 'Text and image'

D. AutoFill Option Values
- If enabled, the option values will be auto filled based on the options (1 to N)

- If disabled, this will allow users to change the code value. For example, in your 5-pt scale rating instead of "Code 5" = Very satisfied, users can manually change or reverse the code value like "Code 1" = Very Satisfied

Other Useful Settings

- To allow participants to update or change answers after submitting, toggle on Allow User Corrections.

- To allow participants to go to the next question by clicking the Continue button, toggle on Include Continue Button, and edit the button text as needed.
