How to set up a Rank Order Question?

How to set up a Rank Order Question?

Main use:

Using this question type, participants can rank items or statements in order of importance or preference (e.g. most important to least important).

How to set up the platform:

1. In the Questionnaire Builder page, add a new question OR insert a new question by hovering over an existing question and clicking the green (+) button (either above or below the existing question)

2. Select Rank Order from the popup menu that appears.

3. Write your question number or label in the upper box and write your question in the Question Text Box.

4. Add the participants' choices using the Response Options Box (Content and Settings)

Response Option Box (Content):

- If adding options by typing choices one by one in the Option Content field, click Add Option

- If adding options using copy-paste from a list, or drag-and-drop list/image, click Batch Add

- You can also add options using the pre-determined list in the Library > Add from Library

You can also save the options you created using
Library > Save Options to Library (and it will be added to the Add From Library drop-down list)

- To add a mutually exclusive option, you can click (+) Not Applicable and edit the wording for Not Applicable (for example: None of the above)

- To add Other responses click (+) Other, Specify and participants can type in and specify their answer (not in the listed option)

- When adding Options (whether individually, batch add or from Library), the Value or option codes as well as the Label (what appears in result visualization or dashboard) will also be automatically updated, but can also be modified by users.

5. Select the ranking order in the OPTION SETTINGS (General Settings)

General Settings:

A. Multiple Selection (enabled by default)

- Using the drop down, you can select (or type in) the least number of allowed responses (left) and the maximum number of (right) allowed responses.

TO RANK ALL OPTIONS IN ORDER (e.g first to last, 1 most important, 10 least important), the minimum value (left) and the maximum value (right) should be the same number

TO RANK ONLY A FEW OPTIONS (e.g, top 3 reasons), the minimum value (left) should be at least one and the maximum value (right) should be the total number of options that you will allow to rank.

B. Piped Options
- If adding options from an existing question, toggle on Use piped options

C. Randomize Options
- If you want to randomize a response to shuffle the choices (and to avoid response bias), toggle on Randomize options. This will display the options in a random order instead of the order you added them in.

D. Option Format
The users can specify the option formats and choose from 'Text only', 'Image only' or 'Text and image'

E. AutoFill Option Values
- If enabled, the option values will be auto filled based on the options (1 to N)

- If disabled, this will allow users to change the code value. For example, you have 5 statements as options, instead of "Code 5" = "Same brands, only cheaper" users can manually change or reverse the code value like "Code 1" = "
Same brands, only cheaper"

Please note that the options values for Other (888) and Not Applicable (999) cannot be modified even if Auto Filled Options is disabled

Layout Settings:

F. Options per row (Desktop) and Options per row (Mobile)
- Users can modify how many options showing in a row

G. Alignment
- Users can modify option alignment (left, center or right oriented)

H. Options size and Image Display (for Image only and Text & Image option)
Users can modify the image size and display type
