How to add a Termination Logic using CUSTOM SCREENER?

How to add a Termination Logic using CUSTOM SCREENER?

CUSTOM SCREENERS can be used to terminate participants based on their responses to ensure that only relevant participants are able to complete the full survey chat.

How to set it up?

1. In the Audience page, click Add a Custom Screener

2.
When the pop-up menu appears, select the question on which you will base your termination.

3. Select the termination rule or Screening Logic per option/group. Please see more details in the next section for SCREENING LOGIC PER QUESTION TYPE.

4. Once the question is added as a Custom Screener, the following icon (person) will be shown on the relevant question card in the Question Builder to indicate that this is a Screening Question.

SCREENING LOGIC PER QUESTION TYPE

a. If the screening question is a Single-Choice question and some other similar questions, then the default Screening Logic is:

Single Choice
Also for Rating / Scale / Map
Screening Logic
QualifyWill NOT terminate if this option is selected
DisqualifyWill terminate if this option is selected

In this example, participants will be terminated if they are "Under 18 years old" or "70 or older".

b. If the screening question is a Multiple choice or Rank Order question type, then the default Screening Logic is:

Multiple Choice or Rank Order
Screening Logic
Must Select (ANY)ANY of the defined options under the column must be selected, otherwise terminate
Must Select (ALL)ALL of the defined options under the column must be selected, otherwise terminate
DisqualifyWill terminate if this option is selected
May selectWill NOT terminate no matter this option is selected or not

Must Select (Any)

In this example, participants must have been users of Vitamins or Cold medicines in the past 6 months. Participants must select any of the Vitamins and Cold medicines (at least one of the two) to continue the survey.

Must Select (All)

In this example, participants must have considered buying all the relevant categories in the past 12 months. Participants must select all of Vitamins, OTC medicines, Oils and rubs, and Lozenges to continue the survey. If they only considered one or two categories, they would be disqualified.

c. If the screening question is a Virtual Question, then the default Screening Logic is:

Virtual Question
Screening logic
QualifyIf the defined option is included in the sample
DisqualifyIf the defined option is NOT included in the sample/ terminated

As you may tell from the Screening Logic, we treat Virtual Questions as Single Choice Questions in the Audience Page. So please make sure that all the variables/options are EXCLUSIVE if you were to add this Virtual question to the Audience page.

The Virtual Question is a very important tool when we want to set up complicated Termination or Screening Logic. Here are some typical use cases.

USE CASE 1: Virtual Question can be used when we want to set up Termination or Screening Logic based on multiple questions.

For example, we want to terminate people when they did NOT buy the product in the past year (Brand A) AND they do not plan to buy it in the next 6 months (these are two separate questions related to past and future purchases). Thus a Virtual Question must be created with those conditions.

Once the virtual question is set up (non user in past year and non intender), add this question as a custom screener. Toggle Disqualify for the option that will satisfy your termination logic. In this case, the Brand Non user and Non intender will be disqualified.

Please note: The system would include a "Not Applicable" variable/option in each Virtual Question, where "Not Applicable" indicates those who does not fulfill the criteria set for any of the variables/options in that question.

USE CASE 2: Virtual Question can be used when we want to set up Termination or Screening Logic based on the question types that are not available on the Audience Page, e.g. Popup Card, etc.

Other question types that are not available on the Audience Page but can be created as Virtual Questions to be added as Custom Screeners for Termination or Screening LogicPopup Cards, Open Ends, Treeman, NPS Plus, Tradeoff Ranking, and other specialty questions

For example, we have a Carousel question with 5 Brands in the Popup Cards and "Never heard of", "Heard of the name but never used", and "Have Used" as the three options. We want to terminate those who select "Never heard of " for Brand A. As Popup Card Question Type can not be added to the Audience page, instead we can

1. Create a Virtual Question with a variable and the logic that Brand A INCLUDES Never heard of;

2. Add this Virtual Question to the Audience Page as a Custom Screener;

3. Disqualify the defined variable

d. If the source question is a Numeric question, then the default conditions are:

Numeric
Screening logic
QualifyWill NOT terminate if the defined value/numeric range is selected
DisqualifyWill terminate if the defined value/numeric range is selected

e. If the source question is a System Metadata, then the default conditions are:

System Metadata
Self-provided Panel, Device Type, and Language (if there are multiple languages)
Screening logic
QualifyWill NOT terminate if the defined options from the system metadata are included
DisqualifyWill terminate if the defined options from the system metadata are included
